Privacy Policy
BETA/NATION is a civic simulation lab. We take the privacy of the people who use it seriously, and this page explains what we collect, why, where it lives, and what you can do about it. It's written in plain language on purpose.
Who runs BETA/NATION
BETA/NATION is an independent civic project based in Latvia. The controller is the BETA/NATION project (Kristaps Cirulis). The fastest way to reach us is through the in-app feedback widget in the bottom-left of every page, or via LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kristapscirulis.
What we collect
Account: your email address when you sign in, and any profile fields you add (handle, display name, bio, links).
Content you publish: proposals, comments, and votes. Proposals and comments are public by design; your votes are private and only visible to you and to administrators for moderation.
Newsletter: your email address if you subscribe to the newsletter.
Feedback: the message you type, plus optional screenshots or short voice recordings if you choose to attach them.
Analytics: pseudonymous events (page views, clicks, language changes) so we can see what parts of the app people use. We do not track you across other sites.
Local preferences: your language choice is stored in your browser's localStorage so we can render the site in the right language on your next visit.
Why we collect it
To run the service (accounts, sign-in, publishing your proposals), to moderate content and enforce our terms, to send the newsletter you asked for, to answer your feedback, and to improve the product with aggregate analytics.
Where your data lives
The database, storage buckets, and server functions run on Lovable Cloud infrastructure (backed by Supabase). Servers are located in the EU where the platform offers it. AI processing goes through the Lovable AI gateway, which forwards requests to the model provider only for the duration of the request.
AI processing
When you submit a proposal, or when we generate a Pulse news post, the text is sent to an AI model to produce a structured simulation or summary. The output is speculative — it is a model's opinion, not legal advice, not government policy, and not a prediction. We label simulations and Pulse posts as AI-generated wherever they appear.
How long we keep it
Public content (proposals, simulations, comments) stays as long as you keep your account and until you ask us to remove it. Feedback and its attachments are kept only as long as we need to answer or moderate them. Analytics events are retained in aggregated form. Rate-limit buckets are pruned automatically. If you delete your account we erase or anonymize your personal data as described in the Terms.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us for a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, or restrict how we use it. Signed-in users can do most of this directly: 'Download my data' and 'Delete my account' live on your profile page. You can also contact us via the feedback widget or LinkedIn. You have the right to complain to a data-protection supervisory authority (in Latvia: Data State Inspectorate — https://www.dvi.gov.lv).
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data materially, we'll update this page and note the date at the top. Small clarifications happen without a separate notice.
